Having graduated in 1970, I headed for flight school and received my aviator wings in Oct ’71, flew P-3’s with VP-17 out of Barber’s Point. NPS was next, then to the USS America (CV-66) as an ASW Officer and TAO. Back ashore, I headed to Pax River, assigned to VX-1. I left active duty in 1981, joined the reserves and VP-68. My last reserve assignment was Commander, Maritime Defense Zone, Atlantic, located on Governor’s Island, NY. I retired as a CDR in 1995.
Now a civilian, I joined the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in 1988 and retired after 26 years. My work there was primarily focused on research in underwater acoustics and submarine detection for the Navy and DARPA.
Nearing retirement I became a part-time math instructor/tutor at the Academy for seven years. Having taken up rowing late in life I became a volunteer assistant coach for Navy Women’s Rowing, winning multiple Patriot League Championships and participating in several NCAA championships.
Nancy and I are beginning our third decade as residents of Eastport and thoroughly enjoy being only a stone’s throw from the Academy and all it has to offer.
