Who We Are
About Us:
GOATs Row 2026 is a 24-hour continuous rowing endurance event to be held in support of two well deserving charities; The Emily Whitehead Foundation and the Annapolis Rowing Club. Scheduled for February 20-21, 2026 at the Annapolis Rowing Club in Annapolis, MD, participants hope to establish two World Indoor Rowing Records for a 70+ year old team of men: Longest Continual Row and Number of Meters Rowed in a 24-Hour Period.
Background:
On October 22, 2025, a group of septuagenarian cyclists arrived at “Bill the Goat” on the grounds of the United States Naval Academy after completing a grueling 1216-mile, 22-day journey from Apalachicola Florida. The Gulf to Goat Ride for Charity was a huge success, promoting awareness for five deserving charities, earning over $160,000 in support of these charities and proving that age is never a barrier to doing great things. Almost immediately after the champagne corks had been popped, questions were posed: What’s Next? Who will follow in the steps of these brave men? The answer was immediate: charitable initiatives sponsored by the Great Class of 1975 are far from over. The GOATs Row for Charity was born.
Why Indoor Rowing?
Indoor rowing is a versatile exercise for fitness, endurance, and strength training, offering a full-body workout that's gentle on joints. It is safe, available at most gyms and a healthy exercise choice for anyone and everyone. It’s also intensely challenging, with indoor rowing competitions held annually across the nation and around the world. Concept 2, manufacturer of rowing ergometers, sponsors indoor rowing competitions and maintains world endurance records for indoor rowing. In the decades-long history of indoor rowing record keeping, no group of men over the age of 70 has attempted a Continual Row or established a record of Meters Rowed in a 24-hour period. On 20-21 February 2026, GOATs Row will attempt to establish these two world records.
Who is Participating?
GOATs Row is comprised of a group of men, all of whom are over the age of 70. Some are fitness consultants. Many have spent a lifetime on the water as oarsmen. Most are alumni of the United States Naval Academy. All are strong supporters of the military, veteran causes and charitable giving. Graduates of the US Naval Academy are often referred to as “Old Goats”. That said, this group of committed 70+ year-old men have most certainly earned the moniker “Greatest of all Time (GOAT)”.
