“Gnarly”

I started out in the very small town of Denmark, SC, but spent my high school years in Northern Virginia where I played football and learned the art of rowing on the Fort Hunt High School Crew team for two years.  Afterwards I was lucky enough to row at USNA under Coaches Carl Ulrich and Andy Parrish, the two greatest coaches I ever worked with, football or Crew.  I was also privileged to row with some of the greatest Navy Crew team members ever.

After graduation in 1975, I completed my nuclear training and subsequently had the honor to serve on three submarines under four great Captains with very solid Crews.  After leaving active duty I stayed in the Reserves and worked in Nuclear Energy.  Along the way I obtained an MBA and a J.D., both of which opened many doors in the Nuclear Industry.

My wife Debbie and I had two children, William and Kris.  Now that we have both retired, Debbie and I have returned to the Charleston, SC area.

Unlike last year where I could not participate, I am absolutely thrilled to sit on a slide, pull a “blade” again and be able to participate in the GOATs ROW and support these great causes!

Thanks again for having rowed with my teammates and under Carl and Andy!  You all were the Greatest!
